Novell client for windows vista 1.0 update 6

I can put a sleep in the main script that spawns the other and the spawned script will continue to run, but as soon as it closes the process is ended. I can run this manually in windows and it behaves as intended. So something is ending the process. I would like to add something in the novell scripts to fix this problem, but the only machines that use roaming profiles are the lab machines the machines in question. The faculty, staff, and student machines run the same scripts without any of the extra login script needs of the labs.

It appears that in the past with XP they got around this problem by running a service that monitors the login process and runs profile scripts once the drive has been mapped.

The solution I have worked out today is to add a script to the userinit registry value. You can append commands to this value instead of replacing it like some other sites have recommended ex. You can do the same with the explorer registry value as well. This appears to cause windows to start the script and userinit. I make the script wait until the drive is mapped then run the profile maintenance.

Windows does seem to wait until userinit and the script end before calling explorer. On a side note my original solution was to turn off login scripts in the default profile and call the command for passive mode login script processing.

I'm doing the same thing on XP, but even with the login scripts turned off I call the command it runs then where the login scripts would usually run it blips the login script window for a second and closes without processing. I'm going to try this new method on XP to make sure this all works.

I am having another problem that is delaying running Vista Client 2. This has been happening since client sp1 so we are still running version 1 update 6. I believe the blue screen error was 0x3e. It happens pretty much as soon as you press enter to logon. I have no idea if this will be of any help, I don't have Vista and I'm not not sure if I exactly understand your problem, but AFAIK if you are authenticated to eDirectory you can map drives to Novell servers in the Group Policy user login script with net.

Thanks Rolf we have been doing this for the users drive space, but we have an unknown number of novell login scripts 20 that get called to map even more different servers that are all based on novell group memberships. I worked out a small script that does an ldap query and gets the users home directory mapping which at least is always the same letter, but there is a possibility of 20 different volumes for which you get mapped to one.

Each employee has a minimum of 6 drives we actually have enough drives allocated that we are almost out of letters and that is with certain volumes being mapped to the same letter depending on which one the user has rights to.

The problem with this method was that I was mapping the drive with net use in the login scripts then novell was mapping it again with novell login scripts. Vote Up 0 Vote Down. Best Answer. About Ruby Islam. Questions 4.
